Dr Mark Fisher, Scientist, AgResearch, Invermay Agricultural Centre, Mosgiel: received a Jubilee Funds Grant to assist with overseas travel involved with "the application of the principles of medical ethics to aspects of agriculture and agricultural science".
Two further applications have been held over for consideration at the April meeting next financial year. In the interim they have been forwarded for consideration by the Animal Science Fund Committee.
In total, some $16,500 has been distributed by the Society during the 1995/96 year in the form of awards.
The NZSAP Committee has also provided support for the visit of Dr Archibald to New Zealand to present a paper at 6th Australasian Gene Mapping Workshop, being held in Dunedin in November 1995. Dr Archibald has been a leading figure in research to create a pig genome map, and its subsequent use to detect quantitative trait loci in this species. Seeding funds have also been loaned to two ICAR satellite conferences: Techniques for Gamete Manipulation and Storage (Hamilton 22-24 June 1996) and Comparative Aspects of Seasonal Breeding (Queenstown 27-28 June 1996).
