Livestock Improvement Lecture
New Zealand Society of Animal Production
The inaugural keynote lecture sponsored by Livestock Improvement will be presented by Professor Michel Georges, University of Liege, Belgium. The title of his talk will be: Marker assisted Selection - its application in dairy cattle breeding. Dr Georges is currently leading a research programme, jointly funded by Livestock Improvement and Holland Genetics, to evaluate the use of marker assisted selection in dairy cattle breeding. Michel, has extensive experience and knowledge
in molecular genetics. While working for Genmark, in Salt Lake City, he made a major contribution to the establishment of a genetic map for dairy cattle as well as identifying loci controlling milk production traits. Michel and members of his team in Belgium have recently identified the gene controlling the red factor in cattle.
