Against the current background of requirements of New Zealand's
export markets and their future potential the following main themes are
discussed:
(a) The nutrition of the ewe after weaning and during mating, during
pregnancy and while suckling.
(b) The nutrition of weaned lambs and hoggets, and the failure of young
sheep to make satisfactory rates of liveweight gain up to the two-tooth
stage.
(c) Feed requirements of the grazing sheep and the factors influencing
them.
(d) The effect of nutrition on wool quantity and quality, particularly
with reference to efficiency of such production.
e) Nutritional requirements of various classes of sheep end products,
especially the production of wool and wethers versus fat Iamb production.
(f) The desirability of increasing sheep stocking rates on various
classes of land, and the managerial and nutritional problems involved in
such a policy.
