The effects of feeding milk replacers which had been exposed to
a range of temperature treatments during processing on the health and
growth of calves reared at pasture were examined in three experiments.
It was concluded that young calves can be satisfactorily reared outdoors
when fed spray- or roller-dried milk replacers. However, where several
"stress" factors (eg. cold, wet weather, infection, mismanagement)
occur, more health problems might be encountered with roller-dried
replacers.
