Estimates of the variation in lamb and hogget liveweights were
obtained for lambs born in 74 dual-purpose Sheeplan flocks in 1977. It
was found that although Sheeplan currently takes account of season by
assuming appropriate standard deviations for weaning, autumn, winter and
spring liveweights, there is considerable additional variation between
flocks which can be accounted for by other know effects. A procedure
for standardizing liveweight deviations is suggested.
