The major challenges facing the sheep industry are improving
animal performance, minimising disease, reducing labour, and being
attuned to consumers' long term needs. Solutions will involve new
technology in sheep breeding, biological disease control and novel
approaches to reducing labour associated with sheep. Environmental,
health and welfare issues are shaping up to be major consumer issues by
the 21st century and production techniques will come under closer
scrutiny in future.
