Computers will become an increasingly important tool in animal
management, as well as in most other areas of agricultural endeavour.
Computers are commonly used for recording and analysing both research
and centrally located production data, but seldom for on-farm use. This
discussion concentrates on the traits that can be recorded at the farm
level, and how these records can be used. System specifications for
successful on-farm use are also outlined.
