During the time sheep are aborting from Salmonella Brandenburg
infection, black-backed gulls have the ability to contaminate stock
water and pasture with S. Brandenburg. This enables these birds to play
a significant role in the local spread of diseases caused by this
organism. They also have the ability to spread other diseases, such as
sheep abortions due to Campylobacter.
